How do I switch from global opt-out to a setup based on permissions?

In Spotler Mail+, there are two ways to set up your unsubscribe process: with permissions or with global opt-out. In this Help Center article, you can read about the difference between the two and the advantages and disadvantages of each type. However, you may currently have a setup based on global opt-out and want to move to a setup with permissions. In that case, there are a few steps to take, which are described below.

Setup based on permissions

To move to a setup based on permissions, it is important that you first create permissions. For example, you create one for newsletters, one for events, and so on. Read how to create permissions in this Help Center article. Note that only owners of a Spotler Mail+ account can create permissions. After that, a setup with permissions has the following requirements:

  • You need to start using dynamic lists instead of static lists.
    • Note: when you use dynamic lists, it is important that you only import new contacts (or contacts that need to be updated manually). Existing contacts keep themselves up to date.
    • To fill dynamic lists with new contacts automatically, you can, for example, use a Spotler Mail+ subscription form.
  • You need to adjust your unsubscribe process with one of the following options:
    • Create your own unsubscribe packages for your mailings in combination with the message editor
    • Have your unsubscribe form(s) adjusted by a Spotler employee. To do so, contact your Spotler partner.
  • You need to convert your current static contacts into dynamic contacts with a one-time import into All contacts instead of Static list. Follow the step-by-step plan for a new import.
  • Do you also send mailings to internal contacts and colleagues? In general, you can use a static list that you import each time for these mailings, and the steps above do not apply.
