How do I add images with personalization to my message?

It is possible to display images that are personalized based on the recipient's contact info. For example, you can show an image of a specific account manager or a specific location. However, it is important that these images are hosted externally. Additionally, to use this feature, you need to import all unique image URLs into your contact information. Otherwise, no image will be displayed unless you set an alternative value as fallback. Below, we will explain in detail how to set this up.

  1. Adding database field
First, you add and edit a database field so that you can store the data for all contacts in the database. In the example below, we have added the database field ProfilepictureAccountmanager and made it visible. For more information on adding and editing database fields, see this article: Database fields.

  2. Fill database field
Next, it is important that the new database field has input for all contacts. You can easily do this by creating a new import. This ensures that an image URL is added to the contact information for your contacts, as shown in the example below.

  3. Select external image in the messages editor
Now, go to your message in the message editor. In the image element, select External Image. Instead of entering a URL here, click on the personalization icon: {p}.

A pop-up screen will open where you can select the personalization field. In our example, this would be ProfilepictureAccountmanager. Additionally, it is always advisable to set an Alternative Value as fallback. This could be a URL of a generic photo, for example.

  4. Style and test
The personalized image (dynamic image) is now loaded into your canvas in the message editor. You can recognize this by the text Dynamic image displayed in the image, as shown below.

In the menu on the left, you can still apply various settings, just like with any other image. For more information about this, see the article: Image element. Make sure to thoroughly test your message to see how the image will appear to the recipient by filling in the database field for yourself as well.

When you send this mailing, Spotler Mail+ will look at the URL associated with the contact in the database and then display it in the message.
