Composing an A/B message

Open the Messages module. Click in the overview on the New message button. It doesn’t matter whether you want to create an A/B message, a regular newsletter, an action mail, or an invitation, you’ll go through the same steps. For an A/B test, only a few additional actions are required. You can apply an A/B test to the following elements:

Sendername

In the inbox fields, you’ll see the option Add A/B test next to the sender name.

If you just want to test the snippet, then make the subject lines the same.

Lay-out, content, calls-to-action

Does a blue button work better than a red one? And which text appeals more to the reader? These are elements you can test with an A/B test.

In the editor, you can apply an A/B test to either a section or a row. Technically, it works the same way—it just depends on how your message is structured. If you create a separate section for each article in your message, it may be useful to set up the test at the section level. If you’ve placed all your content into one section, then it makes sense to set up the A/B test at the row level.

  1. Create your article and duplicate it, so you can easily make a new variant of it.

  2. Select a section or row where you want to apply the A/B test.
  3. On the left side, click the Settings tab.

  4. Then, under A/B settings, choose whether it is version A or B.
  5. You will see in the top-left corner of a row or section when the A/B setting has been applied.
