What should I keep in mind when configuring sFTP for my franchise environment?

Setting up an sFTP connection works largely the same as in a standard Mail+ environment. The difference lies in how the import is processed: in a franchise setup, you import one file centrally, after which Mail+ automatically distributes the contacts to the correct subaccounts.

Do you want to set up sFTP in general? Then first follow the article Connecting via sFTP.

What is the difference between standard and franchise?

  • Standard environment: contacts are imported into a single environment.
  • Franchise environment: contacts are not stored in the franchise environment itself, but are automatically imported into the correct subaccount based on a value.

How to set up distribution to subaccounts

The main difference compared to a standard sFTP import is that in a franchise setup you always work with:

  1. An import property in your import file (a column containing the subaccount value).
  2. An import characteristic for each subaccount (the value that must match the value in your import file).

This works as follows:

  1. Select the import property: during the import setup, select the import property. This is the field that contains the value determining which subaccount the data should be imported into.

  2. Set the import characteristic per subaccount: in each subaccount, enter the value under Import characteristic that must be present in your import file. This allows Mail+ to centrally import one file and automatically route the contacts to the correct subaccounts.

Important

The spelling must match exactly and is case-sensitive. For example: Branch1 is not the same as branch1.

What should you take into account?

1. Each subaccount must have an import characteristic

If you want to populate multiple subaccounts from one file, each subaccount must have its own import characteristic. Only then can Mail+ correctly route the data based on the value from the import property.

Tip

Agree on one fixed way of writing your import values (for example, always starting with a capital letter) and apply this consistently in your file as well as in the subaccount settings.

2. Unknown values are skipped

If a value in your file is not known in Mail+ (for example: 123 does not exist as an import characteristic in any subaccount), that row will be skipped.

Tip

Check in advance whether all values in your file exist as import characteristics within your subaccounts. This helps prevent contacts from being unintentionally skipped during the import.
